Hey there! Welcome to Sunday Sips!

This is where you can come for a weekly 500-words-or-less run down of the most important things that have happened in the video game industry over the last week.

The Art of Star Wars — Jedi Fallen Order Cover Art

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room this week: Lucasfilm.

  • With contracts being up (specifically with EA), Lucasfilm Games has been revived. This means that many titles we’ve grown to love will all be joined together again under the one umbrella that is Lucasfilm Games. Although there are no signs of Lucasfilm Games creating an internal game development studio, it does mean that they get to work with whatever developers they choose.
  • To be more specific about EA’s situation, this means that they lost exclusivity to the Star Wars titles. This doesn’t mean Lucasfilm Games will never work with them again (as they have created some fantastic games together including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) but that their turbulent relationship can be revisited when it is genuinely best for everyone involved, rather than forced by contract.
  • (Speaking of Fallen Order: It has received a next-gen upgrade this week that is absolutely worth checking out.)
  • As Lucasfilm Games gets to choose their developers to work with now, Ubisoft is reportedly already developing an open-world Star Wars game from the developers of Division 2.
  • And for the Indiana Jones franchise? Well, good news gets even better.
Apparently, a new, original Indiana Jones game is being developed by none other than Bethesda Game Studios, specifically, the Wolfenstein team. This means big news and big expectations for all involved.

In news outside of Lucasfilm games:

  • Skyrim has received the co-op split screen treatment with a new mod from Nucleus.
  • New Pokemon Snap has revealed over 200 new Pokemon for players to interact with, alongside their new trailer for the game which will be released on April 30, 2021.

I want to take a moment to mention that obviously none of these lists are exhaustive and there’s no way to fit all the news of the fast-paced video game industry into a mere 500 words. These are the exciting bits of news I have noticed being covered across multiple sites or are possibly not being covered enough. If you feel like I missed something really important, or you’ve found something particularly exciting that I didn’t include drop them in the comments and share it with the world!
